Dependencies

[edit]

Why consider Zanzibar a dependency, when it entered union with Tanzania? I mean thats what the "zan" is for in the name. It has a very different history and status than for example the Spanish territories on mainland Africa. Zanzibar has some autonomy within Tanzania, but so do Grande Comore, Anjouan and Mohéli in Comoros. Babakathy (talk) 08:26, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

World Cup map

[edit]

In the ‘Sport’ section, there is a map of all of the countries to have competed in the World Cup and their best placement. However, the map still has Morrocco’s best performance listed as a quarter final. In the 2022 Qatar World Cup, they reached the semi-finals, meaning that this map is inaccurate. Could somebody please fix this? Ebrady19 (talk) 16:28, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've updated that file on Wikimedia, resolving this issue. Tmb720 (talk) 14:12, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Alkebulan

[edit]

@M.Bitton I'd like to discuss the Alkebulan question. I think that it's mainstream enough to include, as it's widely used as a term and even an adopted name in Afrocentric circles, and it gets frequently repeated. I think it's important for Wikipedia to address the subject, or we leave the space open to blogs simply echoing each other without any serious engagement with sources, or lack thereof. Perhaps it would go better on another page. I'm open suggestions. Catjacket (talk) 17:15, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Catjacket: how about adding it to Afrocentrism? M.Bitton (talk) 17:20, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

History section

[edit]

Are people okay if I have a go at rewriting the history section? I've contributed to the Ancient section at History of Africa and I'm currently writing the post-classical and precolonial sections. For now I only want to summarise the Ancient period by merging Emergence of civilisation and Early civilisations and give a cursory view of the whole continent, whilst linking the relevant regional/periodical pages and country pages. If this is okay, obviously anyone is welcome to help and edit or add to anything I put Alexanderkowal (talk) 09:00, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Art image

[edit]

@RickySarzus I was thinking it might be better to choose an image of a sculpture, as that seems more representative of African art. I personally like the leopard one? Idk Alexanderkowal (talk) 13:33, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Alexanderkowal (talk) 13:45, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The leopard one is a Benin bronze Alexanderkowal (talk) 13:46, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The first one is also good in my opinion RickySarzus (talk) 23:11, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, I wanted to add it but didn’t know where to put it Alexanderkowal (talk) 23:12, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Postcolonial image

Personally an image from one of the Congo wars since they are termed the African world wars, like

A soldier adjusting his gun during the Second Congo War

Please add below if anyone has any other proposals Alexanderkowal (talk) 18:04, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's distasteful to use an image of the Congo Wars for this section. I would suggest another image from African politics in the post-colonial era. For example, an image of the OAU Organisation of African Unity#/media/File:Nasser at African Summit 1964 Cairo.jpg Mwangi wa Rwathia (talk) 08:24, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In the Territories and Regions section, the local name for Togo and Gabon shall be respectively Togo and Gabon, not togolaise and gabonaise. Those are used to designated the inhabitants of the said countries. Glko0 (talk) 10:33, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Would people be interested in joining a wikiproject on improving and creating articles about oral tradition? Wikipedia's coverage on this appears to be very poor Kowal2701 (talk) 19:30, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
