Articles on old Olympic competitors

[edit]

I've noticed you've created quite a few articles on Olympic athletes from a long time ago, and searching online returns only very basic reference data. I'm not sure that it's possible to expand most of these to be encyclopedic articles, so they might be candidates for deletion. But before I start listing them I was hoping to hear from you. —Guanaco 19:13, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Guanaco - For info, all Olympians are notable per WP:NOLYMPICS. There are dozens of previous AfDs for these type of articles that always end in keep. Thanks. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 19:38, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I saw that, it says presumed notable. I will however look into the previous AfDs. —Guanaco 19:48, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I see the reasoning in the AfDs. It won't be easy but hopefully these articles can be filled in at some point. —Guanaco 19:54, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article auto-generation via Polbot

[edit]

Hi, in the version history of Boophis ankarafensis, I saw that you autogenerated the article using User:Polbot. I couldn't find any documentation of this autogeneration process - can you give me some pointers? Thanks -- Daniel Mietchen (talk) 00:09, 29 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, can't help you with that. I actually created the article manually and for some reason, Wikipedia decided to stick that note in the description. ChicXulub 18:10, 29 August 2014 (GMT)

OK, thanks - could it be that you copied the source code from another article that was created by Polbot? -- Daniel Mietchen (talk) 21:00, 29 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think that would explain it. By the way, I was impressed with sound file that you added to the infobox. I didn't realise it was possible to do that. ChicXulub 22:03, 29 August 2014 (GMT)

WikiProject assessment tags for talk pages

[edit]
Thank you for your recent articles, including Hester Goodsell , which I read with interest. When you create a new article, can you add the WikiProject assessment templates to the talk of that article? See the talk page of the article I mentioned for an example of what I mean. Usually it is very simple, you just add something like {{WikiProject Keyword}} to the article's talk, with keyword replaced by the associated WikiProject (ex. if it's a biography article, you would use WikiProject Biography; if it's a United States article, you would use WikiProject United States, and so on). You do not have to rate the article if you do not want to, others will do it eventually. Those templates are very useful, as they bring the articles to a WikiProject attention, and allow them to start tracking the articles through Wikipedia:Article alerts and other tools. For example, WikiProject Poland relies on such templates to generate listings such as Article Alerts, Popular Pages, Quality and Importance Matrix and the Cleanup Listing. Thanks to them, WikiProject members are more easily able to defend your work from deletion, or simply help try to improve it further. Feel free to ask me any questions if you'd like more information about using those talk page templates. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:58, 12 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Mavrikk deletion

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Mr. Mavrikk requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a musical recording which does not indicate why its subject is important or significant, and where the artist's article has never existed, has been deleted or is eligible for deletion itself. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for music.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Attraction360 (talk) 23:15, 16 September 2014 (UTC) Hello, I don't understand what you do mean with the artist doesn't have an article? The deleted article is the article itself about the artist and there are also references (press release and interview). Can you please explain to me, what the matter is. Thanks in advance! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Attraction360 (talkcontribs) 23:12, 16 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it should be really up for deletion. I'm still working on it and trying to make it rather less promotional. At the moment it just names the features, founders and the basic info. While I certainly agree with you that the page qualified for speedy deletion, I hope you'll take a moment to review the criteria you chose to tag the page with. Speedy deletion nomination of Same sex marriage is legalized in all 50 US states.

I only created that page because the pointer existed at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_United_States_history_(1990%E2%80%93present) and didn't point to anything,

What's the best way to fix that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by VickiBrown (talkcontribs) 21:16, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@VickiBrown: You can either create a redirect page like this (notice the redirect link at the top of the page underneath the title)

or you can just amend your link like this ---> Same sex marriage is legalized in all 50 US states. (notice there is no redirect link at the top of this page)

Invitation to the African Destubathon

[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Synchronized Swimmer Bios

[edit]

Hello ChicXulub. Lately, I've been working on WikiProject Swimming and I have come across many of your articles mainly about synchronized swimmers. I notice that in their infoboxes you put "{{Infobox swimmer" but that is wrong. Synchronized swimming is a different sport than swimming and the swimming infobox template is very specific for only swimmers. Additionally, you also put the subject's "Stroke" parameter as Synchronized swimming which is also wrong. Like I said before, they are two different sports. Anyways, for the sake of it I've already changed many of them to {{Infobox sportsperson just for the sake of it. Regards. Yanjipy (talk) 16:04, 26 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
