Regarding the Assam Page
The page seems to be very very disputed. Some people are changing the page just for the sake of it. I've seen one person (or many) are making changes. These people do not care to sign their postings on the discussion pages. What should we do?

Kachwaha "king Ram Singh"
It's extrememly improbable that "Kachwaha", an Indian state at the western edge of India, second farthest from Assam (which lies in India's eastern-most region), is responsible for producing "King Ram Singh", viceroy of Dhaka, Bangladesh (directly to the south of Assam)! Incidentally, I will be editing the reference to "Kachwaha" in this article.
ALSO, I noticed that the linked references to Raja Ram Singh point to an article which can't possibly describe the same Ram Singh of Dhaka, Commander-in-Chief of the Mugal forces in the Battle of Saraighat. No article exists for this particular Ram Singh, so I will also be deleting the links to the incorrect man of the same name.
You seem to have the greatest interest in maintaining these Assam-related pages, so I hope you find these edits appropriate. Of course (as it should be), I am open to discuss the issue (if one arises from my edits), and will respect any justifiable reversions. shabbs 08:48, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
- Begging your pardon! I see now my error, particularly in refering to Ram Singh as "viceroy of Dhaka". Still, regading a couple of your statements in your reply to me: "The then governor of Dhaka could not keep Guwahati" - I realize that, and that this was Mir Jumla, who is directly refered to in the article; "That the commander was Kachwaha king Raja Ram Singh is well documented in history and there is no room for speculation," - I must point out that it hasn't been documented here, until you placed it into the article, and my efforts to corroborate that addition with other India and/or Assam articles (admittedly NOT exhaustive) turned up naught. I can perfectly understand if your addition is "well documented" and uncontested in the regions of the world where this history originates from, but for people of other regions, there is plenty of room for "speculation".
- anyway, it was not my intention to challenge you, or documented history, and I thought I had expressed that when I explained my rationale for my edits. It appears I have offended, and if I have, I am gravely sorry. shabbs 14:02, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
- Which historical sources have you looked up? Mughal chronicles have references to these incidents. And no, it was not Mir Jumla who could not keep Guwahati. Mir Jumla had in fact captured the capital of the Ahom kingdom, but he could not keep it. He struck a treaty with the Ahom king, whereby he got Guwahati. On his way back, he died. At the time of Ahom retaliation when they took back Guwahati, Mir Jumla had been dead for a few years. Chaipau 14:18, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
I used the links in the article itself. I looked up names and places with the search tool. I found several items that appeard to be questionable, for one reason or another, and I changed them, as I saw fit ("Be bold"). Anything that I changed in the article was based on related materials, found in the links contained in the article. When you added Kachwaha, I checked it out. It didn't seem, to me, to have a single thing to say about the Battle of Saraighat, or any of the important names or related places and people, including Ram Singh. Searches of the word, "Kachwaha", didn't seem to list any of the pages linked to the Battle article, either. I couldn't see the relation, plus (after checking out the geographic locations of all the places involved, and Kachwaha) it reasoned that the commander of the mughals would've been much more likely to have come from the same nation, especially to a cultural outsider. So I changed it.
I restate myself: "I hope you find these edits appropriate." And, "it was not my intention to challenge you, or documented history...". Wasted word? shabbs 16:57, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
- The original link in the Battle of Saraighat page was to Ram Singh. As you can see, it is a wrong link. To identify the correct Ram Singh, I inserted the Kachwaha link and removed the link to Ram Singh. This is the historically correct link. And your words are not wasted. I do appreciate your efforts to set it right. Till there appears a page for Raja Ram Singh, I think it should stay the way it is. Chaipau 17:31, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
- As you wish.

Assam to Asom
Hello! Thanks for your message on my talk page. I'm sorry I misspelled the word. Also lots of appology for having thought that the name was actually changed. However, to my knowledge, it has indeed been changed to Asom. Well, thats what all the news papers had carried. I also checked a few websites to confirm it [1][2][3][4]. They also state that the name has indeed been changed. But I believe you are from Assam, and know better about this. But I would request you to check this matter, on whether there was an official confirmation or not. thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu_Joseph |TALK

Assamese transliteration
Hi Chaipau,
If you'd like to take care of the Assamese transliterations on Wikipedia, I think that would be great. My input on Assamese can only go so far, and really a native speaker should be in charge. I saw that you have begun the process with Brahmaputra and whatnot (sorry if I changed your transliteration incorrectly!), and I think it would be nice to have the Bengali- and Assamese-related articles have their titles fully transliterated over time. Thanks for being interested in this sort of thing - for a while I felt like I was the only one who cared about it, and I'm not even Assamese! --SameerKhan 19:33, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Ahom as stub?
I'm trying to reduce the number of stubs in Category:Indian history stubs and Ahom doesn't seem like a stub to me. Do you mind if I remove it's stub status and add it to Wikipedia:WikiProject History of India#To do list instead? KalevTait 04:07, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Ram Singh's army
Hi,
I e-mailed the blogger for his source on the numbers with Ram Singh and he said it was from "History of Aurangzeb" by Sir Jadunath Sarkar. You need to add the reason for sending Ram Singh (punishment for the escape of Shivaji) and the presence of Sikh Guru Tegh Bahadur in the invading army.
- The reason for sending Ram Singh to Assam is very clear. After the death of Mir Jumla who had occupied the Ahom capital and who had signed the Treaty of Ghilajharighat, the Ahoms were consolidating their rule and drove out the Mughals from Guwahati and beyond (west). That Aurangzeb sent Ram Singh as a punishment is speculative, even if it come from Jadunath Sarkar. Because Ram Singh went right back to the Mughal court after the Battle of Saraighat and remained with Aurangzeb as a trusted Rajput king. In anycase, Ram Singh did not come alone. He came with other Mughal generals and nobles.
- Further, the presence of the Sikh Guru is not important for the Battle of Saraighat because the Guru remained in Dhubri, which is a few hundred kilometers west of Saraighat. Dhubri was not a part of the Ahom kingdom, even after the Mughals were driven out of Kamrup for the last and final time by a later Ahom king. So I do not see how the presence of this Guru is pertinent to the Battle of Saraighat. Chaipau 02:45, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

Assamese city names
Hi Chaipau, could you help me in writing down the names of some Assamese towns in Bangla script? Or you can provide me with transliteration. I am creating articles on Indian cities using a bot (ported from Ganeshkbot).

Re
If I recreate Category:People of Assam then it would automatically be moved to Category:People from Assam. As I recall, there is tons of Bengalis in Assam. Bengalis arent ethnic Assamese, the two are different. Lachit should not be in the same cat as a famous Bengali from Assam.Bakaman Bakatalk 00:52, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- If a Bengali can call as his won the land that Lachit defended, what is the problem? Chaipau 14:30, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Also, in that mold then Category:Tripuris would have been moved to Category:People from Tripura. Bengalis are a majority in Tripura so then ethnic Tripuris woukld be unrepresented in their own cat.Bakaman Bakatalk 00:57, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know about the demographics of Assam, but what about Bodos? Are they part of the Assamese ethnic group? Is Assamese a regional or ethnic category? Is "Assamese people" a distinct ethnic group? From the Assam article this is not clear to me. (Pardon my ignorance, please). --Ragib 01:08, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- It is not appropriate to put the Bodos in the Assamese group, not at present. The Bodos did identify with the Assamese in the past, but much water has passed since then. The best I can think of is that the Assamese do not form an ethnic group itself, but contains within itself different ethnic groups. Chaipau 14:58, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
- I made a discussion for this here. Please take some time to voice your opinion on the Assamese matter.Bakaman Bakatalk 01:14, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- I also created Category:Bodo people.`Bakaman Bakatalk 01:27, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- Just as not all people in Bengal are Bengali, not all people in Assam are Assamese. As I mentioned, there could be Category:Assamese people, but that group is not synonymous with Category:People from Assam. Also thanks to User:Bakasuprman for creating Category:Bodo people. Chaipau 11:17, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- I replied to your concerns on the talk page. If they are Assamese then there is no need categorizing them under the "people from Assam" cat they are "assamese people". If they are Bengali/Bodo/Meitei/etc. then "People from Assam" could/should be used.Bakaman Bakatalk 23:54, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- Assamese people are also people from Assam and they rightfully belong there. Do not make a special category. Chaipau 01:09, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
- ALright, Category:Assamese people can be a subcat of {{:Category:People from Assam]]. And i never had a problem with the "historical people" cat.Bakaman Bakatalk 04:13, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I have used the following sources: http://coochbehar.gov.in/Htmfiles/history_book.html
and Itikathia Cooch Behar by Dr. Nripendranath Pal both state that maharaja Chandan was the fist ruler and the date ruled by Biswa Singha as 1522-1554. The first one is from a govt. website and 2nd one is a popular book. I am confused with your reply. I think most histroy books have some some controversial dates. Keep Wikipediaing. Assam, Guwahati Names n one Help
yes, i am too thinkin tht it wll be gud to hv a sep article fr trd-culture n a smaller version of the same in the main.....reference ..infact right now don hv access to my home library in ghy n in ahmedabad as am in bahrain now...am mostly writin based on the volumes of CHOA ed HK Barpujari, Ass. Dev. F by BKK, etc...but don hv all the details of these books....like publishers, date, pages etc...basically am writin what i rmbr now....i will try to get these..
.....yes u r right..usually we should try Ganeshguri (Gonexguri) model...though, i hd a little different view of attemptin -- refixing the standards names as in many case you will find that the intra-city place names r nt adopted through official notifications...mns in every department u will find using or permittin different names.....n majority of the names r used in the signboards r very casual (n wrong also like Bamunimoidan!)....can we try somethin fr redeveloping a wiki standard fr assamese place names?
........and jes above ur comments on ghy-place names thrs a msg fr me in my talk page regarding orphnin of an image....i don understand these can u kindly tell me wat is it? Porikolpok Oxom 09:37, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Culture of Assam
Culture of assam with traditional, modern, urban, rural, etc are fine. But what I tried to emphasise on was traditional Assamese Culture, which is hybrid n itself is a complex system with sub-systems n source cultures. It hs been seen tht due to various reasons (true these r also) , we are carefully avoiding the word 'assamese' n narrowing down its sense.....inclusion of a historical dimension to it ws an effort of mine towards removing the confusions related to the wrd assamese....
now a days the concept hs detoriarated to such a level tht.....assamese hs become a component of assam equivalent to nepali n bengali......some one tmrw will start writing abt bengali or nepali culture in culture of assam.....i donno hw far things can be balanced n accepted!!!
am in bahrain now, here half of the population is non-bahraini....mostly keralites....bt bahraini culture means real traditional bahraini culture.....once bahraini culture is defined n expressed ...thn they can talk abt multiculturalism at truly modern sense.. lemme get a reaction to it frm u... Porikolpok Oxom 16:45, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- Though it is true that Assamese culture is a composite one, formed of many sources, primary the Indo-Aryan, Austro-Asiatic and Tibeto-Burman sources, in time some aspects of this traditional culture came to be identified solely with a just a section of the people. There are many reasons for this, which we need not address in a Wikipedia article. Instead, we should make sure that the Culture of Assam is a good introduction to the culture of the state. Readers should be able to use this article to look at the right places and make up their own minds on the cultural dynamics in the state. Culture is a living thing, and what you call today the "Culture of Assam" may indeed become "Assamese culture" one day. But for now, I think Culture of Assam is the more appropriate title for the article.
Culture of Assam again
- Kerala is really nicely done....i really want such a page fr assam.
- But i think following USA pattern in Culture of Assam is nt appropriate..
- USA's tradition is very new ...fr thm history mns 15th century?
- Its the most powerful state today n rich capable of creating systems n disciplines in their country
- In a rich place with a strong political system n such an env, whover comes adopts typical american culture without forcing a spanish or french, indian, bangladeshi, etc..
- In USA without having a long cultural history still they hv discovered typical systems fr uniting thmselves like american english....or many forms of common urban cultural trends......n american state is so successful in influencing the wrld by their 'american culture'..'a make culture' bt nt at all facing threat....!!
- context in assam is really different!!!!! i blv u kno tht. we need to do a lot here...
Porikolpok Oxom 16:58, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- From Culture of USA, I wish to point out the descriptive nature of the article. You may also look at Culture of France. So the focus should be on the description of the salient features of the culture, with an eye on their temporal development. For example, most traditional cultures are rural, agriculture based. Bihu, which was a rural festival became urban. Some of the recently acquired features are definitely not traditional and will not fall neatly under "Assamese" or "Bodo" or whatever culture. In other words, there are no homogeneous and pure culture anywhere. If you viewed culture as such then you would not see "threats" to culture either.

Etymology
surprised to c revertin back to the original lines....i thought my modification ws gud...specially starting with 'land of assam' sounds bad n also y stressin on 'hindu' scripturs...!!! ppl kno mahabharata n if don kno, can follow the link......it should hv been simpler.....was nt sukapha a Shan-Prnce???.....was economy of assam under ahoms nt stable?? tht was one of their reason fr strength.............. lastly, does the wrld kno satyandra nath sarma?...u need to tell who is he.....i wrote a historian, a better approach would hv been a 'local historian'!!! this is wiki, so i take the opportunity n go back..! kindly read it again...am sure u will like it!! Porikolpok Oxom 18:54, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- I did not revert but cleaned the paragraph up a bit. Below are my comments:
- The dropping of "Hindu" is a good idea.
- The article is Sukaphaa. Note the extra "a". It is enough to mention him as a Shan.:
- Since we are writing about the etymology, there is not need for "strong politico-economic". This can be dealt with elsewhere.
- No need to specify who Satyendra Nath Sarma is in the article. If you wish you could write an article on him. The reference to his book is enough.
- " The Kingdom and its population was often referred as Asam / Oxom / Ahom " is particularly problematic because this is the issue we are discussing, and which is being explained by the quote from Sarma. I suggest this line be dropped.
- I shall clean it up further, and make it as short as possible, maintaining the information content.
its fine!...but yeah i think etymology should be simpler n shorter thn it is now...n i think we r in the same trck...wats thr to debate...i read a kamrupi (he demands) guy's ideas....the content of which is nt even accepted by intelligentsia as debatable!!....even we can write if thrs anythin which is debatable (c kerala etymology!...it says it is debatable)...bt offcourse nt nonsense.....!...cheers!Porikolpok Oxom 20:38, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Assam, a sovereign nation in her past for almost two millenniums, was a part of British India since 1826 (the Treaty of Yandabo). After active participation of people of Assam and their support to the Anti-British Movement in British India, in 1947, Assam became a state within the Republic of India. ---

Assam is known to the world for her tea, petroleum resources, silk and for the one-horned wild-rhinocerous. Commercial cultivation of Assamese tea was initiated in the mid-19th century and the 'Assam-brand' of tea is world famous since then. Petroleum resources in Assam was discovered in the late decades of 19th century and Assam takes pride with the first ever petroleum refinary established in Asia in Digboi. Traditionally Assam was also famous for its wood and wood-products, but after substatial amount of degradation of forests, currently raw-wood procurement is only allowed from commercial cultivations. Moreover, Assamese one-horned rhinocerous are well-known to the world and the Kaziranga and Manas National Parks are the two World Heritage Sites. Assam is one of the most greenest and beautiful places on the earth and the mighty river Brahmaputra flowing from north-east to west is a slendid and unique hydro-geomorphic feature influencing human civilisation to a great extent in this part of Asia.
1. its nt muga-silk only....assamese pat n eri (endi) silk is also wondrfl!...so 'silk' will be appropriate ...n i also feel tht in the main article silk we should write on assamese silk also n if possible wid pictures. 2. Digboi is Asia's frst refinry --- means a lot!...in reference to our backwrd state today. it imp to tell it. 3. Kaziranga n Manas r wrld heritg sites....this can be a nice part of the introduction 4. n its dftly a green a beautiful place...n offcourse one of the in asia, its a truth nt a POV
i blv we may nt much emphasise on the name change part in intro...(actually this is a kinda POV)........mentioning it is ok.
Read this again....n i request u to revise it.

- 1. The issue of sovereignty is a political issue, and you are probably trying to talk about ULFA's demand for sovereignty. A mention of sovereignty is out of place without a mention of ULFA and the current violent conflict. Do you think it is appropriate to discuss this in the lead? I believe it is best discussed in the main part of the article, where it currently is.
- 2. I have changed the link to Assam silk. It is a non-existent article right now, but I shall work on it later.
- 3. Rather than Digboi, maybe a more interesting fact would be the oil and natural gas reserves of Assam.
- 4. I shall make changes to wild-life tourism part.
- 5. I have retained "green" but have deleted "beautiful" because it is a weasel word.
- 6. The name change issue was put up when some editors began moving the article to "Asom". I shall move it finally into the truncated "Etymology" section, leaving just a line, maybe, in the lead. The Etymology section will go into a new page Etymology of Assam. I shall work on the "History" section too, since now we have a hefty History of Assam page.
- 7. We need some heft in the "Geography" section. And a separate Geography of Assam, if possible.
Did some changes in the 2nd para intro...chk...bt still blv tht its imbalanced!...bcuz para starts with a line of saying tea, petro, silk n biodiv....n thn all the remaining lines tells abt kaziranga n othrs things of the natural env......i think it will be better to add one or two sentences on tea, petro as modern heritage industries n silk as a traditional ind..
Sovereignty....no no, my idea ws nt to tell abt ulfa's demand etc...it ws a historical-political intro only....like frm whr the state originated....bcuz thr will be a lotta literature n reference on assam history separately frm indian history....n indian hist literature hs yet nt considered assam hist as its part (xcept in wiki)...so its imp to tell the wrld frm whr the state called assam hs come to india....!! so thought a line can strengthn the intro part.....
saw ur effrts in silk n etym....grt...keep goin .....will come back thr ltr...i don hv ne literature wid me right now...thts sad! Porikolpok Oxom 10:01, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
Biodiversity, yes..will join u thr ltr! Porikolpok Oxom 04:38, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
Physical geography of Assam
Started developin it in Assam n also as a sep artcl Physical Geography of Assam....right now dumping things (also dumping in Biodiversity of Assam..gt few interstin n relevnt pics frm wiki itself.
Porikolpok Oxom 11:59, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
Dist Image
yes u r right. It should be cropped......don u think tht we should hv the dist names in the text (may be in a list form in three or four columns).......not in the map-image.....bcuz text is small now so image is invadin physical geography...think.... Porikolpok Oxom 12:42, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- The cropped image will make it smaller. Also, with the names in the caption, it is easier to identify the districts. Else, you could create an image with district names in it. Chaipau 13:00, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- Also, Biodiversity should probably be moved out of Physical Geography of Assam or the article should be renamed Geography of Assam. Chaipau 13:01, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- Biogeography is considered as a part of physical geography..n biodiversity or biodiversity-regions r part of bio-geography.... n it cant be alone geography of assam bcuz thn everythin will come inside....i mn all aspects of human geography from economic geo to political geog.....so biodiversity under physical geog is OK.
- Porikolpok Oxom 13:14, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- OK. But would it be better to call the section "Biogeography" and then link to Biodiversity of Assam as the main article? Chaipau 13:27, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- OK, Biogeography n biodiversity............./thrs some prblm...i crppd the pic ...but while uploadin its takin the same area even frm tht file! n if u go to the file its cropd..! Porikolpok Oxom 13:31, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- The image looks cropped in the article. If you want a smaller image, reduce the dimension (450px currently). I tried other values, but none are very satisfactory. A way out could be to write down the district names in the image itself (maybe in the lower left and lower right areas.) Since it is a map on the division of Assam, the other countries and states need not be mentioned ("West Bengal" and "Bangladesh" are taking too much of the space). Maybe we need another political map that shows these neighboring entities. Are you aware where GIS data could be available for Assam? Chaipau 13:56, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- yes, it is crpd....it took time to show the new image......well, this size is ok...GIS data fr assam will be available in Assam State Remote Sensing Application Centre in ghy..bt don hv their contact....we will improve these maps if time permits n we can add few thematic maps also ltr....but try finding out some gud pics.....we really need pics...Porikolpok Oxom 14:25, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- thnx, wll get back....am out fr sometime...Porikolpok Oxom 18:36, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

response
Do note that distinguishing between Hinduism and "tribal religions" is virtually impossible in places where both are present. There is more ambiguity in Assam AFAIK than in Manipur, where Pamheiba burned the Naga texts and what not, but as you said following both concurrently. They became acculturated in a primarily Hindu area. I fail to see the contention here.Bakaman 23:58, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
- The bio of Rajeshwar Singha (and these pages were written by you and dkonwar) states "he was a devout Hindu". Similar things for Sunenphaa, Gadadar Singha, and the note in Rudra Singha which notes he became a sakta. AFAIK those are the only four present in the cat, and either you or dkonwar has placed their explicit religious preference in the article itself.Bakaman 02:16, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
- Infact for Assam it is dkonwar who has added most of the articles, my work has been in south indian, indonesian, and cambodian kings.Bakaman 02:24, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Just to tell you I have begun work on Assamese cinema today which was only the first paragraph!!! I intend to start many of the films - it is listed in the World cinema temlate so needs a bit of work!!! I created this template
I have also improved the Cinema of Nepal article and set up WikiProject Tibet. INterested? I work all over the world on wikipedia!!! I still need to add loads of info to the Assames cinema article and copy edit it but I hope I am helping yor project somewhat. WIkipedia is so massive! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 21:20, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. It needs some wikifying and some copyediting but I hope it helps ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 21:59, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Great. I'm afraid I'm a little too busy all over the globe!! on wikipedia to focus on Assmam but expect to see all of those red links disappear soon enough and expect starter articles on Adajya and Joymati within 24 hours! Glad to be of help. All the best ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 22:12, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Great!!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 12:39, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
I'll combine all the different sources to write this into a great article -rewrite it to avoid any minor copywright issues. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 12:58, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- That is a very good idea. I am already working on it. Chaipau 13:04, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
I have started Phani Sarma I will start the second film later. Cool? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 17:21, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Heres Film number two. Indramalati. I also stubbed Kohinoor Opera to rid of the red link!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 20:12, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
I am only going by the source I hope its reliable. Indramalati may need expansion but another missing film is Pokhi which incidentally isn't on the imdb but there seems to be some good info available for it. See ya ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 21:05, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Don't know if you noticed but Joymati was on the front page today and
Indramalati is second on the front page! A good week for Assamese project! Two articles on the main page in two days! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 20:17, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Kaziranga National Park is in PR
Kaziranga National Park, an Indian national park and an UNESCO World Heritage Site was selected as Collaboration of the Month (February 2007) on WIkiProject Protected areas of India and had undergone huge expansion. Now wanting review from expert editors to take this article to the FA level or atleast GA level. Please leave your comments at its peer review page. Amartyabag TALK2ME 12:04, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
Category:Assamese people
Regarding Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2007 March 21#Category:Assamese people, the debate is closed, so editors are unlikely to reconsider as you suggest. One option would be to take the matter to Wikipedia:Deletion review, but that generally limits itself to procedural issues, and is very unlikely to change the result. Perhaps a better route is to wait a week or two and renominate the category at CFD. However, there is an Assamese language article, suggesting that there ought to be Assamese people to go with it, just like with the Bengali language and Category:Bengali people. Discussing this with the editors who felt it should be kept may help. Best regards, Angus McLellan (Talk) 11:37, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- Now, the best way forward is to create a page Assamese People and clarify who is Assamese. In this page, we should define what we generally understand by বৃহত্তৰ অসমীয়া সমাজ| -Bikram98 05:26, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Cotton College disambiguation
I was checking the last edits of Cotton College when I found that you may have been working on the disambiguation as well. I have made suggestions on the talk page of Cotton College as well as the talk page of "Cotton College (disambiguation)".
Would like to hear your views before I take any step.

Update to Gamosa + other expansions related to Textiles and dresses of Assam
In continuation of my proposal to separate out Gamosa I have created and updated the Gamosa entry. Since you put in the content here, would you like to propose a small summary that can be used in the Culture of Assam (this) article instead of the full gamosa content? Further, I have extended Textiles and dresses of Assam. Please take a look. Your comments are always welcome. -Deepraj | Talk 14:34, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Assam, History of; Insurgency in Assam
It has been seen that the content of the both the portions, 1. Post British Period in History of Assam and 2. Insurgency in Assam in the article Assam are almost the same. I therefore have merged the two together under Post British Period in history part.Porikolpok Oxom 09:06, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Moffat Mills Comment
Difficult question! IMHO the Assamese Language article more technical/linguistic hence, the politics of language finds little scope there. That also calls for a complete overhauling of the two pieces I guess
Priyankoo 15:20, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Yup...non nod.....I will do a section on History and Politics behind the evolution of the language....sometime
