30th anniversary of her death is in August

[edit]

Just a pre-emptive heads-up: There will no doubt be quite a few news articles at the 30th anniversary in August. We might have to keep a closer eye on this article than is usual. Paul Austin (talk) 05:03, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Samantha's Catholicism

[edit]

Little is remarked in the popular memory about the influence of Samantha's Catholic values on her letter. Samantha was Catholic; her funeral was held in a Catholic church in Augusta. The often-quoted version of her letter leaves out the following lines: God made the world for us to share and take care of. Not to fight over or have one group of people own it all. Please lets do what [He] wanted and have [everybody] be happy too. Paul Austin (talk) 18:02, 25 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Greetings from the Russian Wikipedia! Samantha wasn't Catholic. I have sent a letter to Bishop Deeley (Diocese of Portland, Maine) with request for the Cause of Beatification of Samantha. But he didn't find evidence of her Catholicism. Then I asked Lena Nelson (the administrator of SamanthaSmithINFO) about Samantha's religion. According to her sources too, Samantha wasn't Catholic. the use of Reed to disambguate

[edit]

I've noticed that increasingly people refer to Samantha with her full name including "Reed" as a way of avoiding confusion with Samantha Smith from Supernatural. This use of "Reed" will increase with time as more Samantha Smiths become well known. Paul Benjamin Austin (talk) 04:37, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Samantha was Usanian instead of American. Incorrect use of the word: american

[edit]

America is a continent not a country. The whole dwellers of America, from Alaska to Argentina, are americans. This is a logical, simple common sense definition. It is a self explanatory thing. It is the name of the whole big continent. On the other hand, the specific country of origin of Samantha was the U.S.A. For such reason, with respect, Samantha and all the dwellers of this place are referred to as: usanians. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 181.61.204.254 (talk) 05:09, 10 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • No. See Demonyms for the United States. Even according to your beliefs, there is no reason not to call Samantha Smith an American. She was born and lived her life in North America, and you said that "The whole dwellers of America, from Alaska to Argentina, are americans." If Argentines or Guatemalans or Surinamese want to also call themselves Americans because they live in the American continent, I haven't heard about that. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 01:23, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Quite a few are available - http://www.samanthasmith.info/index.php/archives/category/11-political-cartoons - and could be included as examples here. PAustin4thApril1980 (talk) 15:28, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
