Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:Rfp)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Please apply longer semi-protection and revert IP warrior. Thanks!. Drmies (talk) 00:53, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Johnuniq (talk) 10:31, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protection for at least one monthReason:- persistent COI editing by a member of the CWI who has less than 100 edits and asserts personal ownership of the article. See: " Like I said before it isn't your International and you have free to say anything you want about us but not on our personal page."[1] Wellington Bay (talk) 01:14, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent IP vandalism. Amigao (talk) 02:08, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of three weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Johnuniq (talk) 10:35, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Extended Confirmed Protection

    Reason: Falls under WP:PIA. Ovioas,wo (talk) 02:08, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: BLP policy violations – Persistent changes to DOB started again after the previous protection expired. Paper9oll (🔔📝) 02:36, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Paper9oll: There is nothing on article talk. How is the subject's date of birth known? If the source is dubious it might be best to omit a birth date from the article. Johnuniq (talk) 10:38, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Johnuniq There is an existing source (not added by me) in the Infobox. Should I remove the DOB entirely? Paper9oll (🔔📝) 10:55, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Paper9oll: According to Google Translate, the source confirms Feb 2, 1982. However, the source does not look very reliable to me. If a Google search cannot find anything else that is not a copy of the first source or of Wikipedia, I would be inclined to remove the DoB with edit summary that the date has been challenged and the source is not sufficiently reliable. If it is reinstated, get advice at WP:BLPN and/or WP:RSN. Johnuniq (talk) 11:01, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @Johnuniq Removed, thanks! Paper9oll (🔔📝) 11:07, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Requesting immediate archiving... Johnuniq (talk) 11:09, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP vandalism. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 03:42, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Johnuniq (talk) 10:40, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Disruptive editing – Persistent IP vandalism. ManaliJain (talk) 04:45, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Johnuniq (talk) 10:41, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP vandalism. 2001:EE0:4D17:3BB0:37:AB82:3EB2:6747 (talk) 06:03, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Johnuniq (talk) 10:43, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persisten vandalism by vandalism-only created accounts. Because blocking individual accounts does not help, page protection is necessary. FromCzech (talk) 06:57, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. @FromCzech: Protection is not the right way to handle the 398/400 change issue and indefinite protection is not available for this level of disruption. I see that a couple of accounts have been created to repeat the edit and that has to be handled more directly. I will watch the article for a while but if I miss something for 24 hours, please remind me. In particular, I will block if there are any more attacks at article talk such as from September 2023. Johnuniq (talk) 10:53, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Insertion of WP:UNDUE content by IP sock of an LTA. See Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Yaysmay15. Borgenland (talk) 07:21, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Johnuniq (talk) 10:54, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – A dynamic IP is edit warring to restore 46k of content previously removed under WP:BANEVASION. Belbury (talk) 07:48, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Johnuniq (talk) 11:02, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High amount of vandalism over the past few days despite repeated attempts to revert changes. Milkk7 (talk) 08:16, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 10:07, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Repeated addition of unsourced and/or possibily hoaxed content. Blake Gripling (talk) 08:19, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Dynamic IP readding fake films. Belbury (talk) 08:51, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 10:04, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: This is extremely frustrating. My page is being vandalized by supporters of a women who I am suing for defamation, who has falsely accused me of rape (we had a 5-year, 4-month intimate relationship). This is not the first vandalism. The lawsuit is still ongoing, but as it gets closer to resolution her supporters (I believe) are harassing me anonymously. Her lawyers have twice tried to get me to settle in the last year, I have refused, and the harassment has increased. I just deleted the edit of user https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/2603:7000:C900:B8D:69C3:3C23:AE5C:7EC8 - but this edit has already cost me work. Please protect editing of my page (which I did not start myself, but which affects my ability to work. I can easily prove that this woman is lying, and her lawyers are trying everything to keep this case from going to a jury trial. I can provide evidence that she is knowingly lying, if needed. Mbase1235 (talk) 10:18, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Johnuniq (talk) 10:29, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Recurring vandalism and BLP violations by IPs and autoconfirmed accounts going back to December 2023. – Recoil16 (talk) 10:30, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. @Recoil16: This is the first protection and it has to escalate. Ask again if it continues and ping me. Johnuniq (talk) 11:07, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Risk of vandalism. I will bet that there's going to be people who will change John Kirby's photos into the screenshots of Kirby, a video game character. Likisa (talk) 10:52, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedPages are not protected preemptively. Last edit to the article waas in June this year. Lectonar (talk) 10:54, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Recent flurry of drive-by IP nonsense (big foreign-language paste-ins) both here and at Union Pacific Big Boy. Andy Dingley (talk) 10:55, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Johnuniq (talk) 11:08, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
