Two "Legacy" sections

[edit]

This article has two sections titled "Legacy"; one is concerned with Mario Lanza's musical legacy, the other with other aspects of his legacy. Should these be merged into one section, or kept separate? If the latter, I think they should be renamed. Vichordius (talk) 05:41, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I renamed one section to musical legacy. I couldn't think of another title for the other section. I don't think they should be merged.4meter4 (talk) 05:47, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Citation needed?

[edit]

Under Legacy, the sentence "Lanza was born at 636 Christian Street in South Philadelphia. A Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission marker stands outside of the house." is followed by [citation needed]. Is it needed to prove he was born at that location, or that the sign is there? If the latter, the picture in the article should be ample proof (unless you think it was photo-shopped). I note the pic was added after the cit. needed. Infobox

[edit]

Why does this article have no infobox, and why is there a note in the code to get a consensus here before adding one? The Wikipedia-wide consensus is that articles about people get infoboxes. If there is a dispute about which type of infobox to use, multiple types can be combined and embedded within each other. Since Lanza was in both music and movies, there happens to be an infobox technique for that. See those being used at Al Jolson and Frank Sinatra for example. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 19:06, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering the same exact thing. The note refers to this project-specific detail about classical musicians' infoboxes, which states that "current consensus among project participants holds that biographical infoboxes are often counterproductive on biographies of classical musicians...because they often oversimplify issues and cause needless debates over content" and "they should not be used without first obtaining consensus on the article's talk page". Not only is this part of the essay confusing (not sure why infoboxes causing potential debates is reason enough to exclude them from an article), but it also seems to apply mostly to figures who performed solely classical music (i.e., "conductors and instrumentalists") and not people like Lanza whose musical output was varied and had several other occupations. When this was last discussed back in 2012, it looks like the decision to leave the infobox out was based on WikiProject Opera having some rule about not using infoboxes for opera singers, and it doesn't look like there was any consensus on the matter. However, seeing as we've acknowledged that he was not just a classical musician, and I can't find that note about leaving out infoboxes for opera singers on the WikiProject's page, I think it's safe to add an infobox. benǝʇᴉɯ 17:25, 18 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life?

[edit]

Most biographical article have a "personal life" section -- I see none in this article. In particular it is mentioned -- briefly -- that he had a wife, but practically nothing is said about her. Was there a marriage? When? Where? Under what circumstances in his life? Did Betty (no last name) just appear on Mario's doorstep one morning, and he decided to shack up with her? Really could use some detail here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.95.43.253 (talk) 01:27, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
