Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! --MarkSweep 04:01, 3 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

English on the Internet

[edit]

First, welcome once again. You may have noticed your article went to Votes for Deletion. I think it may well be kept as the topic in and of itself is worthwhile. Why don't you go over the page and make it less of a list and more of a history of the topic and then note that you've made the changes on VfD? Add an intro at the beginning briefly going over rise of the internet, prevelance of English etc. plus (this is certainly an interesting topic) resistance to English on-line. Also, you should edit your Userpage and move the comment from user Philip to this talk; it was rude of him to post it there before you had created the page. Please feel free to leave me a message under discussion on my page. Marskell 17:36, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re-worked the page Gary. Different focus now and your links have been left as supplement at the bottom. Check it out again if you like. --Marskell 17:01, 27 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia! Firstly, my apologies for leaving a spam notice on your User page. I fully realise I should have left it on your Talk page. It was an error on my part - it was early in the morning and I wasn't paying attention!

I have reverted your links on the AudioBook page. As a general rule, Wikipedia is not a collection of links. Generally, unless they over and above in value for the article, they shouldn't be added IMHO. Otherwise Wikipedia could simply become another catalog of links on the web. If you truly believe they are much better than normal, you can discuss it on the article's Talk page. That's what I think anyway - every decision is reached by consensus and if a majority agree they should be there, that's fine with me. Feel free to drop me a line if you wish. Cheers. --PhilipO 20:10, August 26, 2005 (UTC)

Warning sign
This image may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:William T Powers.jpg. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law. We need you to specify two things on the image description page:

  • The copyright holder, and
  • The copyright status

The copyright holder is usually the creator. If the creator was paid to make this image, then their employer may be the copyright holder. If several people collaborated, then there may be more than one copyright holder. If you created this image, then you are the copyright holder.

Because of the large number of images on Wikipedia, we've sorted them using image copyright tags. Just find the right tag corresponding to the copyright status of this image, and paste it onto the image description page like this: {{TAGHERE}}.

There are 3 basic ways to licence an image on Wikipedia:

  • The copyright holder can also release their work into the public domain. See here for examples.
  • Images from certain sources are automatically released into the public domain. This is true for the United States, where the Wikimedia servers are located. (See here for images from the government of the USA and here for other governments.) However, not all governments release their work into the public domain. One exception is the UK (see here for images from the UK government). Non-free licence governments are listed here.
  • Also, in some cases, an image is copyrighted but allowed on Wikipedia because of fair use. To see a) if this image qualifies, and b) if so, how to tag it, see Wikipedia:Fair use.

For more information, see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Please remember that untagged images are likely to be deleted.

If you have uploaded other images without including copyright tags, please go back and tag them. Also, please tag all images that you upload in the future.

If you have any questions, just leave a message on my talk page. Thanks again. --wknight94 20:37, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I notice you are doing a lot of good work on that article. Please don't be offended that I put the major part of your last edit in a footnote. I didn't realise it was the biggest part of your edit or I would have been more diplomatic. Please take a look and see if it flows better. If you don't agree, see if you can work it back into the controversy section. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 17:31, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The vandal who munged the URL of your list was on IP 84.229.216.253. Not much to go on there, but if it continues we can pursue the issue. --Una Smith 18:59, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A study on how to cover scientific uncertainties/controversies

[edit]

Hi. I would like to ask whether you would agree to participate in a short survey on how to cover scientific uncertainties/controversies in articles pertaining to global warming and climate change (survey described here). If interested, please get in touch via my talkpage or email me Encyclopaedia21 (talk) 16:38, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Gary, please see Talk:Perceptual_control_theory#Conflict_of_Interest. If you announced or signaled your conflict of interest given who you are and what you've published, I didn't see it. Advising in the discussion page seems appropriate; creating the page, writing the majority of the content, and linking to yourself does not. 76.115.3.200 (talk) 09:40, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Bonnie's Prairie Nature Preserve, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.grandprairiefriends.org/bonnies.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 13:52, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Bonnie's Prairie Nature Preserve requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.  Merlion  444  13:54, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Bonnie's Prairie Nature Preserve requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you.  Merlion  444  15:28, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article Shortline Railroad Prairie has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

not clear how this meets notability guidelines. Lacks coverage in 3rd party sources

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Help with My Page

[edit]

Hi. I am a student at Clemson University, and for my English class we have an assignment to edit a wikipedia page. I am working on the National Outdoor Leadership School's page. From the edits I have made, could you give me suggestions?

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
