Major variants of the myth of Antiope

[edit]

There are several major variants of the myth of Antiope, and I might try to collect a bit of material on them in the coming weeks. I have a particular interest in the subject for several reasons; one of them being that for a time I developed a close friendship with a woman named "Antiope". It is an extremely rare name, even in Greece where she was born. I might try to collect all the information that I can before her next birthday in a couple of months. Antiope, who once drank with me some of the mingled waters of Antarctica, Maine, and Wales, if by any chance you come across this before I see you next, you could leave a message on my talk page, but refrain from using any name other than that of "Achilles". ~ Achilles 07:55, 29 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have just summarized the major variants of Antiope's tale, with references, in the article Hippolyta. Some of what I've done there could thus be cribbed and inserted into this article, as appropriate. The primary problem, of course, is that the ancients couldn't agree to which Amazon certain incidents belonged or even what those incidents were.
