I understand and appreciate enormously the neutrality of Wikipedia and your efforts to keep it that way. I will follow the policies and guidelines to proceed with the big update update.
    S124816. I'd suggest using template:Edit COI on the talk page of Lally School of Management. I've added it to my watchlist. In general, it is designed for replacements. (ex Dean: Michael Smith should actually be Dean:David Brown and include the references.) this will allow another editor to evaluate your proposed changes and take action. Again, than you for being willing to work through the Paid contributor rules.     How do I link a section of an article into a category page?

    I have tried looking at the various help pages about categorization, but I cannot seem to figure it out.

    I was looking at Category:Lists of tallest buildings in New Jersey page and noticed that you can link sections of an article into a category, which had been done three times on this page. There is one section of a page that is notably missing, New Brunswick, New Jersey#Tallest buildings, but I cannot figure out how to add it to the category. I have tried looking at the source code for the other three pages that are linked to the sections of their articles, but it seems it doesn't even exist in the code. I know I cannot just directly add it to the category page either, as that is not what was done on the category page.     @Hij802: Those three entries in Category:Lists of tallest buildings in New Jersey are in italics which means they are redirects. There is also a redirect at List of tallest buildings in New Brunswick but it's not currently in the category. See Help:Redirect#Creating and editing redirects.     Possible to get info into box by name of wikidata item?

    Hello helpful helpers,

    I have written several articles about particular power stations and I normally just pick up the infobox info from wikidata automatically by simply writing “Infobox power station” inside curly brackets - for example see Atlas power station.

    However occasionally one article covers more than one power station, for example Afşin-Elbistan power stations. As the A and B power stations have so much in common I don’t want to split the article.

    I would like an infobox for the A section and another for the B section. Is there any way I can say something like “Infobox power station - get the info from wikidata item Q6101862”? Chidgk1 (talk) 06:45, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Chidgk1, you can use |qid= like so: {{Infobox power station |qid=Q6101862 |name=Afşin-Elbistan B}}. It seems the name is taken from the page name, that's why I'm setting it manually. Rummskartoffel 09:00, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Is it possible to get WSOP free chips from websites that provides links?

Creating a new article from scratch is extremely challenging, and new editors are strongly recommended to spend a few months learning how Wikipedia works, by making improvements to some of our existing seven million articles before trying it. The insignificant link to Operation Enduring Freedom has nothing to do with him deploying to or serving in Afghanistan.     Wikipedia has fairly strict rules about the requirements for an article: the subject must meet Wikipedia's criteria for notability, which mostly comes down to "Has there been enough independent reliably published material about this subject to base an article on?", remembering that Wikipedia has little interest in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is almost entirely interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources. If enough material is cited from independent sources to establish notability, a limited amount of uncontroversial factual information may be added from non-independent sources.
    There is a place where you can request an article be written - requested articles, but in all honesty, the take-up from there is very low.
    If you can find suitable source, and you are not Rugoff, then you may try to create an article yourself. But creating an article is hard, and people who try it before they have spent several weeks (at least) learning how Wikipedia works often have a frustrating experience. My earnest advice to new editors is to not even think about trying to create an article until you have spent several weeks - at least - learning about how Wikipedia works by making improvements to existing articles. Once you have understood core policies such as verifiability, neutral point of view, reliable, independent sources, and notability, and experienced how we handle disagreements with other editors (the Bold, Revert, Discuss cycle), then you might be ready to read your first article carefully, and try creating a draft.     Why is 2FA only enableable on your account through making a special request?

    Having my account recently hacked (via a data breach or something), this is understandably something I want to enable, but for some reason, this is not a default thing you can enable in your account options like most of the websites on the internet or something.     Help Needed with Vaibhav Palhade Draft Article

    Hello, Ballal2003. You can't "improve notability" - he either is notable or he isn't; and you establish that he is by finding sources that meet the triple criterion of reliability, independence, and significant coverage - see WP:42.
    It is unlikely that anybody here will be willing to do the work of looking for the sources (which is the major work that goes into writing an article) - not impossible, but unlikely. ColinFine (talk) 21:07, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Two queries

    1. Since 2014, Nikhilanand Panigrahy has been edited by the coincidentally-named User:Nikhilanand.panigrahy, the equally-coincidentally-named User:Ramakanta Panigrahy, and a couple of IP addresses until it has become a 3900+-byte CV. (Unsourced claims of having written 1500 papers, etc.) Given the two user accounts are clearly self-promotional SPAs (neither has ever edited any other article), would any admins be able to hand down a few blocks so they stop reverting the attempts at pruning the CV?
    2. Also in 2014, User:Padmacharan123 created the article Bibhuprasad Mohapatra, which was sent to AFD and deleted for being "essentially an unsources [sic] BLP with some links to articles written by the subject in one particular blog site." Padmacharan then seems to have waited 12 months, then recreated the article again, meaning it now sits today as an... unsourced BLP with some links to articles written by the subject in one particular blog site. Since I can't see deleted articles, would any admins be able to see if the newer article is similar enough to the previous one for wp:G4 to apply?

    Nikhilanand Panigrahy is a mess. Most of it is completely unsourced. Of the parts that are sourced. there are five refs in total: four are dead and the fifth fails verification. It's possible that that ref was only there to source the claim that the school had changed names, since it is unlikely that a university home page ever confirmed that a given person was an alumnus. Article tagged, editor pointed to COI. If sources are not found this will likely be an AFD candidate. Meters (talk) 07:21, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    I suggest going directly to AfD, no reason to wait. There is nothing in that page that comes close to satisfying WP:NPROF, particularly as Google Scholar only finds one publication. No proof of any publications. The claim that Ph.D. thesis was about theoretical Solid State Physics is very, very dubious without publications.     Help with maintenance message

    I'm currently getting a CS1 maintenance message on this particular use of {{Cite web}}:

    Changing template text

    This might not be the right place for this, but I will start here. I had previously tagged a couple of articles with {{sources exist}} because I knew that there were sources in both for numerous unsourced paragraphs. I was told that it was for "articles with insufficient references to prove WP:GNG" which is not what the actual text of the template says. It was suggested that I use {{refideas}}, but that is also not right, in the end the compromise is {{more sources needed}}. That is still not right as the sources definitely exist. (If don't want to tag every sentence with {{citation needed}} as that would be too much work.) Is there a better tag, and/or probably the text of {{sources exist}} should be changed if it is supposed to be a notability tag. Ldm1954 (talk) 13:39, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    "Start a discussion" on Talk Pages

    A new feature appeared today on Talk pages for both articles and users. It is part of mediawiki software since the banner appears without any code being visible in the source. On most editor's Talk Page (at the bottom) it shows "Start a discussion with X" and ".... What you say here will be public for others to see." along with the now-familiar flower icon and a big blue button for starting a new section. Two questions:

    1) Why does it use the word "say" rather than "write"? (Maybe because we call them Talk Pages, not Write Pages!)

    2) Why does the banner on my Talk Page show a different message, namely, "Welcome to your talk page" and "People on Wikipedia can use this talk page to post a public message for you, and you will be notified when they do." but no big blue button?     Registered users only see it if "Enable quick topic adding" is enabled at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing. "say" can include writing as wiktionary:say#Verb says. I think "say" is a good fit for a two-person discussion. An administrator can change it by creating MediaWiki:Discussiontools-emptystate-desc-user which currently shows a default message, but a good reason would be needed. If it's created then a later modification of the default message would not be reflected. You are not supposed to start discussions on your own talk page so it makes sense that the "Start a discussion" button is omitted there. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:36, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Where to advertise/promote a proposed rework of a page for critique and other review?

    Greetings, so I've been working on this here massive rework of List of foodborne illness outbreaks in the United States for a hot minute, and while it still needs some work before I submit it to one or more appropriate channels, I have tried to promote my proposed rewrite for others to critique on the main page's talk page, but it does not appear to have received any attention since I posted it. If allowed, where would be an appropriate place to have a better chance of other editors critique it and, once it's done, submit it for review? Thanks in advance!     Can I use Google Translate?

    I was looking at the page Aramis (wrestler), a page that I have wanted to improve before, and I decided to look at the Español version. I noticed that the Español version has more writing in the Career section than in the English version.     Yes. And no.
    Yes: To give yourself a private version of the Español into the approximate, near-but-not-English that Google Translate outputs.
    No: Do not dump that near-but-not-English text into the English article. Instead, use your knowledge of English to write that translated text into encyclopedia-quality English.
    Further: Be aware that the English Wikipedia has high standards regarding the citation of claims in the text. The Español version might not have had such high standards. So you may need to find additional citations (English, preferably) or cut out the unsupported parts of the text.

    It depends which procedure was used to delete it. See deletion review. But be aware that you will need to understand Wikipedia's deletion policy, and make a policy-based argument.     I read that this person is the Pioneer of Music "YouTuber" in Tamilnadu who started the first Independent Artist YouTube Channel and Released two Official songs before the start up of YouTube Channels like Sony Music, Saregama, T series,etc..     @EggzBeatsGamez: start by choosing a subject that meets our notability requirements (WP:N). If your subject is not notable, then there is nothing you can do to create an article for Wikipedia.     Thoughts on notability of these three academics?

    I am not particularly experienced with writing biographies, or WP:NACADEMIC, so I thought I'd ask for second thoughts here on if these three people are notable, because in an editing field I work in often (esotericism/cults) I run into them a lot and use them for citations very often, and I like having the fields in my citations have blue links.

    I don't know how the finer details of NACADEMIC work or if they'd pass it - would they? It says something about h-indexes but I don't even know where to begin with finding that out. All three of them have multiple books (either written or edited, though sometimes co-edited. Not sure how that affects NAUTHOR) that they wrote that themselves pass NBOOK with several reviews, though I think of the three we only currently have an article on a book Petersen wrote (Contemporary Religious Satanism).     PARAKANYAA, the links you offer aren't usable for much. For each of these three academics, has his work been discussed at any length by academics other than, and independent of, himself? Or has it been summarized in textbooks on the subject?     @Hoary I know they're not independent, they just show citations and works which I have been told matters for academic notability. I don't think textbooks exist for this subject. I mean, their works have plenty reviews and citations and there are other works that recount their arguments.

    That is indeed an impressive-looking list of reviews. (I didn't even skimread any of them. I plead laziness.) Even in academic journals, reviews can at times be petty, superficial or wrongheaded; and sometimes the reviewer seems to want to summarize the book that they wish they'd published on the same subject; but more often than not academic reviews do have content that can beneficially be summarized.     Sheikh Said Heshmatullah ibn Ashraf al-Mohammadi If you are referring to the content of your sandbox, it is "published" in that it is on Wikipedia's computers, but it is not yet formally part of the encyclopedia, as you lack the information to submit it. It's better to create drafts via the article wizard, which makes it easier to submit them. We can edit your draft to permit you to submit it, but if you were to submit it, it would be rejected quickly, as it is completely unsourced.     In addition to the other answers, I will point out that "An Exploration" of anything is almost certainly original research, which is not permitted in a Wikipedia article. An article should be a summary of what reliable independent sources have said about a subject, nothing more. It should not contain any analysis, argumentation or conclusions (except possibly a summary of the analysis, argumentation or conclusions in a single cited source).     Name change of otherwise non-notable transgender person in another article

    I am a transgender person who is mentioned in a Wikipedia article under my deadname. I was a significant participant in events described in the article, and several sources for the article describe me under that name. I would like to correct the name, as

    1. it was a significant accomplishment of mine, which I now have to hide to avoid people looking it up on Wikipedia and finding my deadname, and

    2. friends of mine have (without my prior involvement) tried to correct it and they get frustrated when their correction is reverted.

    Unfortunately, as the events described in the article are passed, nobody is likely to write about my connection to them under my new name in a public source which can be cited on Wikipedia.     As you say this event occurred under your deadname, this passage of MOS:GENDERID seems to be the relevant one: "Former names under which a living person was notable should be introduced with "born" or "formerly" in the lead sentence of their main biographical article. Name and gender matters should be explained at first appearance in that article, without overemphasis. In articles on works or other activities of such a person, use their current name by default, and give another name associated with that context in a parenthetical or footnote, only if they were notable under that name. In other articles, do not go into detail about such a person's name or gender except when directly relevant to the context.".     Either you are misunderstanding or I am. I don't believe any page move is necessary, since this person is not the subject of any article. They are mentioned in an article that is not primarily about them, and they are looking to remove the use of their deadname in that article.
    By my reading of GENDERID, I think the "only if they were notable under that name" clause is controlling here. If this person was notable under their deadname, we should use the parenthetical/footnote option presented by 331dot. If not, we should just use the current name, provided we can reasonably prove that one name is correct and the other a deadname.     Unless I'm missing something, a problem that the above replies have not addressed is the lack of reliable sources mentioning the name change. MOS:GENDERID says Refer to any person whose gender might be questioned with the name and gendered words ... that reflect the person's most recent expressed self-identification as reported in the most recent reliable sources. Is the lack of reliable sources with the new name a total bar, and if so, is there something I could do myself that would count as a reliable source?     "Reliable" depends on context, and we typically find credible self-published statements reliable for identity claims like this.     Editing a curious "notes" section on a Wiki page

    On the main page on the artist El Greco, the notes section, El Greco#Notes, is displayed in an odd vertical format instead of the normal line-by-line format.     I think this is because of the huge Timeline next to it. (It looks OK to me, but I imagine it would be problematic with a narrower screen width).     The problem with using a more "comprehensible to the layperson" scheme is that laypeople from Birmingham, Birmingham, Boston, Bloemfontein, Brisbane, Bangaluru or Dunedin (couldn't find a major B in New Zealand) will understand it rather differently from each other. That's one of the main reasons for using IPA.
    Having said that, MOS:PRON does say The Wikipedia respelling system, using the {{respell}} template, can be used in addition to the IPA, so you're welcome to add pronunciations using that scheme wherever you wish. ColinFine (talk) 18:01, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    I was editing the article "Klystron ", by adding a citation to the heading "Gyroklystron" ( located after heading "Reflex Klystron") and somehow, I deleted the heading "Gyroklystron " could someone please fix that and/or please help me to fix it? I think there is some conflict between the browser on my phone and Wikipedia 's visual interface, because when I click in a location to edit, the cursor keeps being sent somewhere else. The file information page says that the photo was taken by Royce Degrie, who is a professional headshot and portrait photographer in Brentwood, Tennessee. Why do you say that no copyright exists? Do you have a legally binding document from Royce Degrie saying that he has released this photo into the public domain? If not, the photo became copyright protected the moment it was first published. You assert that you have the permission to do this from the daughter of the photographer. That is not sufficient. You must follow the procedure described at c:Commons:Volunteer_Response_Team, which involves the copyright holder emailing Commons volunteers to confirm they have licensed the file in the ways allowed on Commons.     Hello. I created an article about Archie Henderson (comedian) and just went to upload it. I then discovered there were versions in draft that have been rejected a few times.

    What is the protocol about uploading a new version which, I believe, has sufficient quality citations? bbc.co.uk, theguardian.com, telegraph.co.uk plus newspapers.

    It is a much reduced version of what was proposed before, but I believe it fits requirements.

    Do I just copy and paste my new article into the draft space? Any suggestions appreciated.

    I will suggest you to improve Draft:Archie Henderson (comedian). It was declined couple of times and needs improvement, you can improve that.     There's a discussion of the footnotes on Talk:Regensburg subcamp. Not to mention the lack of engagement from the primary author, s/he doesn't seem to have the skill to fix the references so that the resources are moved to the bottom and titled bibliography.
