Oppose Intro Paragraph

[edit]

The current intro paragraph claims that meekness is an attribute of "human nature", which I absolutely disagree. Human nature is the fallen attributes, that came as a result of the fall of Adam, to which there are scriptural references stating that the natural man is an enemy of God. Meekness on the other hand is a spiritual quality that comes as one of the gifts of the Holy Ghost. Moreover, meekness seems to be an after effect of being led by the spirit, and a requirement for some spiritual and physical blessings (the meek shall inherit the Earth). In Moroni 8:6 it states that a remission of sins brings meekness. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.52.136.158 (talk) 11:56, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I would prefer to redirect it to violence. What do you think? Best --Weissmann (talk) 05:24, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Original research

[edit]

Moved here for disucssion:

Meekness differs from humility in that meek people give up something, perhaps a right or an argument, to appear humble to others and to prevent sometimes petty differences from escalating into a greater problem. True meekness comes from a position of being "absolutely correct whilst being aware". whereas humbleness implies a potential lack of knowledge or grasp of a complicated situation, but genuinely not wanting to offend anybody, for any reason at any time, in any way.

Mo sourcing for this. Jokestress (talk) 18:38, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

pejorative modern sense of the word?

[edit]

I appreciate what information is here, it is valuable in an encyclopedic sense given the importance of the concept in Scripture. But I think the article should include at least mention that in much modern usage and one dictionary sense, meekness refers more to a "Caspar Milquetoast" weakness affliction, than it does to humble strength.ya
